Firm Footbed

Karl Birkenstock pioneered the firm cork-latex footbed in the 1960's. He discovered that cork granules blended with natural rubber latex forms a mixture firm enough to support arches while malleable enough to gradually conform. The formula also proved to be lightweight, durable, and environmentally sustainable.

Most important, Karl shaped his footbeds without compromise for fussgesundheit, good-foot-health, with a neutral heel, prominent arch supports, a toe grip and protective toe rim, and room for toes to reach out to help you balance at the end of the step, when much of your weight is on your toes.

If you want to feel the same experience of early-adopting hippies of the 60's, and you don't mind taking a week or two to break them in, try the firm footbed.
